Health care facilities on Great Western Park

The Thames Valley Integrated Care Board (ICB) is responsible for healthcare services in Oxfordshire.

We are working closely with the ICB and Vale of White Horse District Council to support the needs of health care for residents for Great Western Park in Didcot.

You can find out more and keep up to date with the plan via the Health care facilities for GWP webpage.

Early-stage construction work starts on major infrastructure scheme for Didcot and surrounding areas

Early-stage construction work has started on vital transport infrastructure to reduce congestion and offer more sustainable travel options in and around Didcot and its surrounding villages.

The major infrastructure scheme will transform travel and transport in the Didcot area by providing more sustainable travel options in and around the town, as well as reducing congestion in the surrounding villages and improving air quality and noise levels.

The project includes four highway sections that incorporate dualling the A4130 between the Milton Interchange and Didcot, a new bridge over the railway line, a new bridge over the River Thames between Didcot and Culham and a bypass of Clifton Hampden village.

The project will facilitate new and enhanced bus services and will also feature 19km of new walking and cycleways. It will provide opportunities for more direct, faster and more reliable bus routes and improve pedestrian, cycling and wheeling connections. Early-stage works currently underway include:

  • Erection of temporary fencing, including tree protection measures
  • Vegetation and site clearance to facilitate archaeological activities
  • Set up of main compounds and site offices
  • Utility diversions

Main construction is expected to start in early spring 2026. More information on the planned works can be found on the Oxfordshire County Council website. If you would like to keep up to date with construction progress of the Didcot and surrounding areas major infrastructure (HIF1) scheme, sign up to the monthly newsletter.

Didcot Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan

Didcot Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (otherwise known as an LCWIP) for Didcot is approved by the local highways authority, Oxfordshire County Council .  The plan sets out where improvements can be made to paths and routes to encourage everyone to walk and bicycle around the town.

Leisure Facilities Assessment and Playing Pitch Strategies

The district councils approved and adopted these two strategies, which assess what sports facilities are available, such as the type and quality of local playing fields in the both districts. We have extracted data for Didcot from these strategies to help inform the Garden Town team’s support for decisions on new sports provision and funding.

The Leisure Facilities Assessment Strategy

This looks at the quality, quantity and accessibility of leisure facilities, as well as the current and future use of the facilities. Key sports and leisure facilities assessed include sports halls, swimming pools, activity halls, health and fitness suites, squash courts, water sports facilities, skateparks, multi-use games areas and climbing walls

The Playing Pitch Strategy

The Playing Pitch Strategy provides an audit of the quality, quantity, and accessibility of playing pitches (including cricket, football, hockey, rugby and other pitches), establishes current levels of demand and helps plan the appropriate level of pitch provision for the future.

You can find out more information on both the above strategies here.

Great Western Park

GWP health centre

Responsibility for delivering primary health care lies with the Thames Valley Integrated Care Board.

A site for the health centre in Great Western Park was committed by developer Taylor Wimpey as part of its planning obligations, known as section 106.

The two organisations have been working alongside Woodlands Medical Centre and their appointed developer Apsley Henley Med Ltd, as well as Vale of White Horse District Council, to bring forward the new health centre.

As the planning authority, Vale of White Horse District Council determined the application in accordance with the standard determination process for applications of this type.

All parties are now working together to progress the next steps.
