South Oxfordshire District Council Active Communities team works across the district to grow participation in sport and active recreation, and to raise awareness of available funding and support for sports clubs.
The Active Communities team focuses on specific sports, parishes, towns and priority groups, mainly supporting those who are inactive or have difficulties in accessing physical activity, and those where external funding is available. Please see the finding activities to suit you page
The leisure development team works with sports clubs and town and parish councils to look at developing new and existing facilities in the district to meet the local needs. Some of these needs are based on the South Oxfordshire District Council Sports Facility Strategy 2017, the Playing Pitch Strategy 2018 and the Local Leisure facilities strategy 2017.
Clubs can be advised on processes for facility development, have support and advice from officers, have pre-application advice from Sport England and National Governing Bodies of Sport and have funding advice. The Active Communities team have a funding guide for sports clubs to check revenue and capital grants.
Some parishes may be eligible for S106 funding that has been provided through new housing developments within the area. The Active Communities team can support clubs, parishes and organisations in applying for the funding to expand leisure facilities. To check if you parish has funds in your sports please check the funding checker.
Sport England also has a Club Matters website to support clubs with governance, finance, funding, policies, procedures and more and it’s free to access. Just enter your clubs details on the website to access local seminars, webinars and documents. https://www.sportenglandclubmatters.com/
