Watlington Neighbourhood Plan

Watlington Parish Council has sent us its submitted Neighbourhood Plan. The process empowers local communities to help direct and shape the way their area grows and develops into the future. A neighbourhood plan will form part of the development plan, which helps to determine planning applications.

What’s happening now?

On Thursday 28 June 2018, residents voted for the adoption of the Watlington neighbourhood plan. The official results were as follows:

- Votes in favour of adopting the neighbourhood plan (YES vote): 808  (80.9%)

- Votes against adopting the neighbourhood plan (NO vote): 191  (19.1%)

- Turnout: 1001 (47.4%)

Section 3 of the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017 (as amended) gives neighbourhood plans full legal effect once they have passed their local referendum. Take a look at the Watlington Neighbourhood Plan (2.2 MB) PDF  (Referendum Version)

Update July 2018 – Ruling on Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA)

Our Cabinet has deferred making a recommendation about adoption of the Watlington Neighbourhood Plan while we seek further guidance about the impact of a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union. The judgement is in relation to Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) and the way that screenings assessments are carried out. HRAS are part of EU obligations and we must conform. It is therefore important that we are fully aware of all of the ramifications of the ruling before we progress with the Neighbourhood Plan.

We are in contact with the parish council and parties involved in the Neighbourhood Plan and will continue to keep them updated.

The Court ruling can be viewed here.

More information on the process is available on our Neighbourhood Planning home page. If you would like to discuss neighbourhood planning with a member of the team, please call us on 01235 422600 or email planning.policy@southoxon.gov.uk.
