Residents enjoy discovering latest Didcot updates at community event

Visitors to Didcot’s community update event last week got to find out about the range of projects and developments taking place in the garden town.

The event, which featured members of the Didcot Garden Town team alongside developers, took place at the community centre in Gentian Mews in Great Western Park on Thursday 18 September.

Those who attended got to discover details about the forthcoming wayfinding signs that will be appearing soon across the town.

They also got to give ideas on an art installation taking place in Cow Lane and Edmonds Park.

And there was information on a wide range of healthy activities and groups to join in the local area.

Alongside this, housing developers Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon answered questions on what facilities will be built on new development Valley Park over the next few years.

Cllr Tony Worgan, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “There was a steady flow of visitors throughout the event which was great to see. They were all interested to see what was going on in the town and delighted to learn more.

“There’s so much happening in Didcot, particularly focusing on health and wellbeing, that it was great to have so much information available in one place with people on hand to help explain.”

Cllr Helen Pighills, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Wellbeing at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “I want to thank the hard work from the Didcot Garden Town team for putting on the event and all the other exhibitors for their time.

“The event was really worthwhile and I look forward to future events.”

Another update meeting is being held at Cornerstone on Wednesday 18 March 2026 from 5pm to 7.30pm.

The decision to hold two Community Update meetings a year follows the councils’ Cabinet decision to replace the Parish, Residents and Business Sounding Board meeting, with this event being the first.
