Have you considered donating your furniture to charity or a good home? Emmaus is an Oxford based charity that will come out to all areas of the county and collect unwanted furniture free of charge. Examples of what we collect

  • furniture (such as sofas, chairs and tables)
  • televisions
  • washing machines
  • mattresses
  • fridge and freezers*

*You must clean and empty fridges and freezers of all food before we collect them.

Items we don't collect

The removal of any type of commercial waste and fixtures and fittings such as bathroom suites, doors, boilers or DIY waste is not included. If you pay someone to dispose of this kind of waste you need to check they are a registered waste carrier and and make sure they give you a waste transfer note to state where the rubbish is being taken from and to. Collection day

When you book, you will be given a number of collection days to choose from.The items must be visible and accessible on your property from 7am on the agreed collection day(s). The items must be left at the edge of your property next to the public highway. If you live in a flat or other property and we normally collect your rubbish from communal bins, the items must be put out next to where we collect the communal bins from. If they aren’t in the correct location when the crew come to make the collection, they won’t be collected and no refund will be due.

The minimum charge is £38 for up to 3 items and £7.50 for each additional item. There is a maximum of six items per collection day: if you have more than six, you'll need to book another collection day. Please note that a bed and mattress counts as 2 items and a three piece suite (consisting of 1 settee and 2 chairs) counts as 3 items. 

Before you contact us to book your bulky waste collection, have a good think about whether you have any other big items to dispose of. Once we have processed your booking, we are unable to make any alterations or add any other items – even if you have only booked one or two items.

You can still pay by debit/credit card, over the phone or by cheque/postal order made payable to South Oxfordshire District Council. You need to write your address, and the job number we give you, on the back of the cheque and send it to the address in the Contact section of this page.

The quickest and easiest way to book a bulky waste collections is to use the form above.  Please note that if your payment isn't processed, your slot won't be booked.  To book over the phone, please call the waste team on 01235 422406.

Please note - Biffa collect your bulky waste, not the council.  If anyone claims to be from the council and says they're collecting your waste, please refuse this and call us on 01235 422406 to let us know.
