Help for young people

Some young people are not able to live at home but would benefit from developing their independence whilst living with a responsible adult in the safety and security of their home.  We are currently seeking reliable and compassionate adults to become hosts for our Supported Lodging Scheme.  Hosts come from all walks of life and backgrounds.  There are no restrictions based on age, ethnicity, religious or sexual orientation.

Being a host is a rewarding occupation and can be carried out alongside your existing employment or as a full time profession.  Do you have the space, patience, and passion to provide a home for a young person?

What do I need to become a host?

  • interest in and concern for the welfare of young people
  • commitment to treating young people with respect, care and sensitivity
  • ability to communicate effectively with young people
  • ability to support young people in an empowering way
  • ability to work in a positive and professional manner with the Supported Lodgings Team and other agencies
  • Patience, compassion, understanding and a good sense of humour

Are there any reasons why I can't become a host?

  • extensive references and police checks are required for all prospective hosts
  • serious criminal convictions will disqualify you from becoming a host

What will be required of me as a host?

  • deliver a program of support for the young person
  • develop their skills and confidence to live independently
  • the Supported Lodgings Coordinator will provide support and supervision

What support will I receive as a host?

  • a support charge to deliver support to the young person
  • rent for use of the room
  • ongoing professional training and development
  • support and supervision throughout placement
