Response to the Chancellor’s Spending Review

Responding to the Chancellor’s spending review, Cllr Sue Cooper, Leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, said:

“Whilst we welcome the Chancellor’s additional funding for local government to contribute to handling the loss of income and additional costs associated with Covid-19, this represents only a short-term fix. We need a review of longer-term funding for locally provided services. Access to significant funding as well as certainty over an extended period are required.

“We have been doing everything we can to help our most vulnerable people through the pandemic while keeping our services running. As the Chancellor said, we are in a state of economic emergency. The financial impact of the pandemic on councils remains significant and potentially long lasting.”
