New cycle facility unveiled at Cholsey Station
A new cycle maintenance facility has been unveiled at Cholsey Station. The project, funded by Great Western Railway’s Customer and Community improvement fund in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council, makes it easier for people to choose two wheels when travelling to and from the station.
Featuring a bike pump and a variety of tools, the repair station allows cyclists to make quick fixes on the go. It is hoped the new repair station will encourage more people to use active travel such as cycling alongside public transport.

Cllr Tony Worgan, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at South Oxfordshire District Council said: “Cholsey is a fantastic gateway for many residents in nearby villages and Wallingford. The world beyond awaits.
“The more adventurous can use this facility as part of a great day out on the River Thames, or along the Ridgeway. The station already has CCTV monitored cycle parking so I hope this additional maintenance station will mean even more people get on their bikes when using the station.”
Nicholas Reid, Great Western Railway’s Transport Integration Manager, added “GWR is always looking for innovative ways to improve what we offer customers, further supporting the communities we serve.
“We are delighted to work with South Oxfordshire District Council and welcome this enhancement to the station. Providing enhanced cycle facilities improves customers’ experience and further supports active travel to and from the station.”
South Oxfordshire’s Cycling Champion Cllr Andrea Powell added: “Cholsey station is a key part of the local travel network and improved cycle facilities here will hopefully encourage more people to choose active travel when catching a train or arriving here to explore our beautiful countryside.”
More work is planned to improve cycling around Wallingford as part of the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan led by Oxfordshire County Council.
This will include identifying cycling and walking infrastructure improvements for future investment in the short, medium and long term as well as ensuring that consideration is given to cycling and walking within local planning and transport policies and strategies.
