Major council IT system maintenance from 24 May for around one week
Published Monday 12 May 2025
Advanced notice of online system downtime
Towards the end of May, we are carrying out a major piece of planned essential maintenance work on the council’s IT systems. This work is unavoidable and has to take place in order to secure the future of our IT system and the services it enables.
This work will impact a significant proportion of the council’s services – for example, planning registers and applications, mapping systems, environmental protection, food and workplace safety, private sector housing, community safety, waste, envirocrime reporting (flytipping, littering), licensing, land charges registers, most of the council’s online forms, payments and GIS.
Systems unavailable
For a period of just over one week, from 24 May, all of these systems will be unavailable. These dates are based on our current understanding – but could be subject to change and may be longer than anticipated.
This will mean during this downtime people won’t be able to use the majority of the online services – such as comment on a planning application via the council’s website, use the majority of the council’s online forms e.g. book a bulky waste collection, report fly-tipping, apply for a licence or make certain payments.
Planning consultations:
Where relevant planning consultations will be extended by 14 days to accommodate the down time.
Land charges:
The land charges downtime will extend beyond the initial period of one week. We will provide updates as soon as possible.
Unaffected systems
The garden waste permit payment system is unaffected, as is council tax payments and general customer enquiries form.
We will keep banner notices on the council’s website alerting people in advance of the downtime and during the duration of the work, with updates when the work is complete. You can still contact us for other enquiries via our enquiry form or by phone.
