Didcot community event to update on health, wellbeing and leisure projects
The Didcot community can hear about the latest news and updates on the health, wellbeing, sport and leisure projects and developments in the town at a community event.
Held between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday 18 September at the Main Community Centre in Gentian Mews, the community update event will have members of South Oxfordshire District Council’s Didcot Garden Team as well as local developers and sports and leisure providers present.
Visitors can drop in to:
- see what the new vibrant wayfinding signage will look like and where it will be popping up across Didcot
- have their say on what improvements they’d like to see around the town’s green spaces in Station Road, Hitchcock Way, on Ladygrove and paths in south Didcot and Great Western Park
- give their ideas for exciting public art projects for Cow Lane and Edmonds Park
- discover what schools, sports and recreation and other community facilities are currently available and new facilities that will be provided in the future
- discover a wide range of healthy activities and groups there are for them to join in the local area
Housing developers will be providing information on what facilities will be built on their new developments over the next few years.
Cllr Tony Worgan, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “There’s lots of hard work being done to improve the health and wellbeing of Didcot residents.
“This event is a great opportunity for people to find out more about that work and give their input on some of the exciting projects being developed.”
Cllr Helen Pighills, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Wellbeing at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “This is a great chance for residents to find out more from developers about their plans for facilities in the area and ask questions.
“I also hope it will encourage people to get more healthy as they learn about the opportunities available to them on their doorstep.”
The decision to hold two Community Update meetings a year follows the councils’ Cabinet decision to replace the Parish, Residents and Business Sounding Board meeting, with this event being the first.
Residents can sign up to receive regular updates on all Didcot Garden Town projects. The next newsletter is in October and residents can sign up on our DGT website.
