Council expresses frustration at further delays for Didcot GP surgery

Further delays to the delivery of the new GP surgery at Great Western Park in Didcot have generated disappointment and frustration this week in South Oxfordshire.
The council reacted to the latest update issued by the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care System Board (BOB ICB), who confirmed they will no longer be progressing with the developer Assura as the development partner for the GP surgery project, following a full review of costings for the project.
Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers, Leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, said how the latest update comes as a deep frustration for local people in Didcot, after years of waiting on the delivery of the surgery.
Cllr Filipova-Rivers said: “Although the council is closely engaged with the ICB, and we know they are working proactively to find an alternative developer, this decision is still hard to digest for everyone, as it ultimately means further delays and uncertainty – with no clear end in sight.
“This situation is an inevitable consequence of the complications with private finance in the NHS – working with third party developers which potentially – as in this instance – create affordability issues.
“Whilst much of this project is out of our control, we will of course continue to support where we can in progressing this much needed project to fruition.”
Cllr Tony Worgan, South Oxfordshire District Council Deputy Leader and ward member for Didcot West, added: “Didcot Residents are disappointed in the ongoing failure to get this done – it’s a decade late. Didcot deserves better and deserves it now.”
The ICB publish all updates on their website at Great Western Park, Didcot GP Services.
