Housing advice and support for young people leaving care
Leaving care is a big step. Oxfordshire County Council provides help for care leavers to prepare for adulthood and independent living. Leaving Care Personal Advisors can give advice on:
• Information on the help you get if you leave care
• Help with finding accommodation
• Education, employment and training
• Looking after your health and wellbeing
• Your finances
For more information please contact the Oxfordshire County Council Leaving Care team on 01865 792422.
If you are looking for somewhere to live, are aged between 18 and 20 and have been in care, your personal advisor may be able to refer you for a supported housing placement.
Should you find yourself homeless or at risk of homelessness, you or your personal advisor can contact our housing team. We will allocate you a housing officer who will consider you for options including:
• A place in a hostel or supported accommodation
• Mother and baby supported accommodation
• A room in a shared house
• Help applying to the council’s housing register
The housing officer will create a personal housing plan which you will be expected to follow. If you don’t follow the advice in your plan, this could lead to us to ending our help. We can also end our assistance if you refuse an offer of accommodation.
Online assistance
You can receive online housing assistance, tailored to your circumstances, by completing our self-help housing options tool: www.southoxfordshirehomechoice.org.uk/
You may also be asked to complete the online assessment to help our team ensure you receive appropriate housing advice.
