£521,000 boost for community projects in South Oxfordshire
There is fantastic news for community organisations in South Oxfordshire this month – with over half a million pounds in additional funding announced.
The additional funding for the 2025–2027 Revenue Grant recipients was approved by South Oxfordshire District Council following a full council meeting on 17 July.
This brings the total funding awarded to £1,188,951, supporting 17 organisations across the district over two years.
The Revenue Grant scheme, run by the council, aims to help voluntary and community organisations build and support thriving communities and improve the quality of life of people across South Oxfordshire.
The increase was approved after funding requests for eligible projects had exceeded the available budget. The council agreed that subject to there being sufficient underspend on the previous year’s revenue budget, that some of that underspend could be used to facilitate the increased grant funding.
As a result, an additional fifteen voluntary and charitable sector organisations will receive 100 per cent of the funding they requested including a family centre, youth and advice services, bereavement support, support for disabled people, and environmental charities.
For grant recipients The Abingdon Bridge and Be Free Young Carers the additional funding will ensure they can continue to deliver vital services that are already making a difference in their local communities.
Gary Hibbins from The Abingdon Bridge said: “This funding will make a significant difference in supporting young people and their families across South Oxfordshire. We’re particularly impressed by the Council’s swift and thoughtful decision to invest in the charity sector – an investment that will help strengthen community cohesion and wellbeing across the district.”
Hannah Waugh from Be Free Young Carers said: “As a completely independently funded small charity in Oxfordshire – this additional funding is absolutely crucial. We are so grateful for the multiyear funding which allows us to continue to grow and develop as a charity in order to support young carers with the challenges that they are facing.”
Cllr Georgina Heritage, Cabinet Member for Communities at South Oxfordshire District Council said: “As a council, we recognise the invaluable work that community and voluntary organisations do across our district. It’s great to see how this funding will help them continue their essential work and provide support to those who need it most.
“I’m delighted that we’re able to provide all these organisations with 100 per cent of the funding they requested for the next two years – this will help them continue making a positive difference in our local communities.
“By helping cover key operational costs, these organisations can focus on what they do best – supporting people and continuing the vital day-to-day work that means so much to our district.”
