The Orchard Centre - Phase II expansion

Following the signing of a 250 year lease agreement by South Oxfordshire District Council and Hammerson Plc, the Orchard Centre expansion began in 2017 to provide 21 new shops and seven dining options for residents and visitors to Didcot town centre.

Construction work on the major £50 million expansion of the Orchard Centre in Didcot is almost complete with 60 per cent of the 8,825sqm extension already filled.  Marks and Spencers Food Hall, H&M, TK Maxx, Starbucks and Boots are all set to open on 22 March 2018.

Nando's have also confirmed they will be opening a restaurant in the new centre later this year and Hammerson are in advanced talks with a number of other exciting brands who are hoping to take up available space in the town.

The expansion of the Orchard Centre is a significant milestone for the future growth of Didcot town centre, as part of wider plans to transform Didcot into a Garden Town and deliver 20,000 new jobs and 15,000 new homes over the next 20 years.

The Orchard Centre, which opened in 2005, vastly extended the range of shops and facilities in Didcot with the introduction of a Sainsbury’s superstore, lots of medium and smaller sized shops featuring high street names such as Argos, Game and Next, as well as several cafes and restaurants, a cinema and an arts centre.

Despite Didcot’s excellent transport links, the town's growing population and its proximity to the near-by employment centres like Milton Park and Harwell, the town centre is still relatively small and only has a limited range of shops.  Given the size and development of the catchment area it serves we have always intended to make this area bigger and better.
