Private hire operators

Any person wishing to operate private hire vehicles within the South Oxfordshire District must apply to the Council for a licence under the provisions of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

For details of the requirements for operators, please see our Joint Taxi Licensing Policy (795.1 KB) PDF . Applicants must have a base within the South Oxfordshire District Council area with the appropriate planning permission and insurance.

To apply, you will need to print off and complete this application form (163.5 KB) Word 97-2003 . The completed form and any supporting documents should be uploaded to our online application portal.

Due to our current inability to complete the site visit required, any new licence applications will be assessed on a case by case basis.

If you wish to increase the number of vehicles that you operate, please contact us by email with details of your proposal and an officer will contact you to confirm the application fee that would be required.

If you wish to move to a new operating base within the South Oxfordshire District Council area, you should first check whether the appropriate planning permission is in place for that premises. You will then need to apply for a new licence using the application form as above, with the usual licence application fee. Please note that you must not operate from the new base until the new licence is granted; the previous licence can then be surrendered.
