About

Berinsfield was awarded Garden Village status in 2019, recognising it as a community set to receive long-term investment for sustainable growth. The aim is to improve homes, facilities, and green spaces, creating a healthier, better-connected village.

The Garden Village includes undeveloped land to the east of the existing settlement, on the former airfield, allocated in the South Oxfordshire Local Plan (December 2020, Policy STRAT10i). Around 1,700–1,900 homes are expected to be built. You can see a concept map  You can see a concept map of what this may look like.

To guide development and ensure it meets community needs, the Garden Village team has produced several key documents:

  • Community Insight Profile (CIP, 2023)
    • Developed with input from residents, businesses, and local groups
    • Provides evidence about local priorities, needs, and strengths
  • Health & Wellbeing Action Plan (2024)
    • Based on the CIP
    • Guides work to reduce health inequalities, improve mental wellbeing, support young people, strengthen social connections, and improve access to community facilities
  • Masterplan Framework Document (MFD, 2024)
    • Sets out the vision for new homes, upgraded facilities, green spaces, and improved walking and cycling routes
  • Regeneration Strategy (2025, pending approval)
    • Developed following full consultation with residents, businesses, and community organisations
    • Will guide how future development at Mount Farm delivers on community priorities
  • Community Delivery Plan (2023, updated 2025)
    • Sets out key projects and priorities for the Garden Village programme
    • Ensures development reflects community needs and aspirations

The work of the Garden Village team is already making a difference in the community. Various community and capital projects have been delivered to improve local facilities, green spaces, and opportunities for residents. You can find more information and updates on these initiatives on our Projects Page

The council and its partners will continue to engage with residents as plans progress. Updates, consultations, and planning information will be shared on this website so everyone can stay involved in shaping Berinsfield’s future.
