Halloween competition

We’ve launched a reuse competition for children and adults to help make Halloween more environmentally-friendly. Ten winners will receive books on zero waste recipes and ideas.

Are you planning to decorate your home for Halloween? Instead of buying something new why not make spooky decorations from things you already have around the house?

With the right imagination, toilet roll cardboard inner tubes can become flying bats, empty plastic milk containers become ghosts or monsters and pine cones can be transformed into scary spiders.

The judges are looking for the most creative Halloween ideas with reduce, reuse and recycle in mind! Send in photos of your creations to be in with a chance of winning. We will share your great ideas on our social media sites.

Cllr Catherine Webber, Vale of White Horse District Council cabinet member for Climate Emergency and Environment, said: “This is the perfect time for parents and anyone looking after children during the October half term to get their homes ready for Halloween using resources they already have, rather than buying new ones. Have fun by experimenting with imaginative ideas to create something extraordinary and spooky.”

Cllr Sue Cooper, South Oxfordshire District Council cabinet member for Environment, Climate Change and Nature, said: “We know from our recycling figures that there are many people across our districts who take reducing general waste seriously. By sending in their reuse decorations they can inspire others to do the same and be in with a chance to win a great prize at the same time.”

  • The deadline for all entries is 5 November 2021.
  • All entries should be sent BY EMAIL to waste.team@southandvale.gov.uk with the subject line Halloween Competition
