The government has announced that Oxfordshire and West Berkshire’s seven existing councils will be replaced by three unitary councils from 1 April 2028 as part of its plans for local government reorganisation (LGR).

Local charities supported as South Oxfordshire elects new district council chair
Published 22 May 2026 South Oxfordshire District Council elected a new Chair at its Annual Meeting on 14 May 2026, with two local charities set to benefit from the appointment. Cllr Andrea Powell has been elected Chair, with Cllr David Rouane appointed as her Vice Chair. Cllr Powell is one of the ward councillors for Benson and Crowmarsh.
