SO Charitable Lottery raises more than £52,000 for good causes

Good causes across South Oxfordshire are set to benefit from an extra funding boost from the SO Charitable Lottery’s community fund.
This year £8,210 has been raised through the fund which will be distributed to eight organisations across the district helping them continue their work supporting local communities.
The SO Charitable Lottery launched in 2018 and is run by South Oxfordshire District Council. It currently supports 82 local charities and community groups.
Participants in the lottery can choose to support a specific charity or contribute to the central community fund which is distributed annually to multiple good causes.
The fund is distributed each year to organisations that sell twenty tickets per week or more by the end of the financial year and support local communities.
Since its launch the community fund has generated £52,210 for local good causes
Cllr Georgina Heritage, Cabinet Member for Communities at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We know many local groups are feeling the pressure financially, and funding like this can make a real difference in helping them carry on supporting those who need it most.
“It’s always great to see first-hand the impact these organisations have in our communities, and this fund is one way we can support that work.
“We’d love to see more organisations get involved in the lottery. The more people who take part, the greater the benefit we can bring to communities across South Oxfordshire.”
Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary is among the organisations set to benefit from the funding, receiving just over £1,557. The sanctuary cares for a wide range of animals and relies on community support to continue its vital work.
Iain Atkin, Manager at Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary, said: “These unrestricted funds will go towards our essential animal care costs and, given the vast increase in the number of kittens currently in our care, the funding will most likely help cover vital veterinary treatment and associated care for them.
“The support from the lottery and the local community is invaluable to us, helping ensure that we can continue providing safe shelter, medical care and rehabilitation for vulnerable animals in need across the district.”
The lottery is free for organisations to join, and groups are encouraged to contact the council’s Community Enablement team to find out more. Tickets cost just £1 and offer players the chance to win a top prize of £25,000.
