How our services are affected

All our council offices are closed to the public and our council staff are working from home. 

Please see our who we are for email addresses and telephone numbers for each of our departments. Our phone lines remain open if you need to speak to someone, however it’s likely to be quicker if you look for your information on our website or email us.

Waste collections

Our waste collections are running normally. If we’re experiencing a small amount of disruption to some of our waste collection services we will keep you up to date via our social media sites.

Parking charges 

Parking charges were re-introduced in district council car parks from Monday 8 June – you must display a ticket or have a valid online or text payment confirmation.  NHS and care staff are able to park for free with a valid Covid-19 pass. Find out more on our car parks pages.

Leisure and community centres, parks and play areas, and The Cornerstone Arts Centre

The Cornerstone Arts Centre is currently closed.

The Southern and Northern Community Centre‘s on GWP are now open and available for hire. Please note priority bookings are being given for groups supporting the Covid-19 response.

You can find out about what our Active Communities team are up to, get advice about keeping moving and mental wellbeing via our social media pages. They have started resuming some outdoor activities in line with the government roadmap, please email for more information or check out their pages on our website

Our play areas are open – visitors are being asked to follow some simple instructions to help prevent transmitting the virus.

Outdoor gyms are now available for use again under Covid-19 guidelines.

Meetings, elections, referendums and events 

  • Our Planning Committee and other council meetings are now taking place online, you can find out more on our democracy pages 
  • Police and Crime Commissioner Election was postponed last year and will now take place in May of this year.

Taxi licensing

In view of the current situation with Covid-19, the licensing team are prioritising renewal applications for taxi drivers and will not be conducting new driver licence appointments and knowledge tests until further notice.  All drivers who had appointments booked have been contacted and their applications will be processed remotely where possible. For more information head to our taxi licensing webpage.

Community Hub operations

The Community Hub team are available for people struggling to access support, or essentials like food or prescriptions during lockdown.
