Celebrate all things green at Didcot’s Eco Fair

Everyone is invited to the Didcot Eco Fair on Saturday 5 November for a fun and informative event showcasing South Oxfordshire’s fantastic sustainable businesses, with arts and crafts activities, food stalls and advice on how we can reduce both our environmental impact and our heating bills.

South Oxfordshire District Council, in partnership with Sustainable Didcot, is hosting the free family-friendly event from 11am to 3pm at the council’s arts centre, Cornerstone.

Centre stage will be the Eco Marketplace with a variety of stalls specialising in handmade products, clothing, food and drink, jewellery, skincare and beauty products, candles, baking, upcycled furniture, garden products, pushchair and car seat valeting, and homewares, as well as electric bikes and vehicles.

Also taking place will be a Christmas Jumper Swap, so bring unwanted, clean jumpers and you could come away with something new to you.

The Didcot Repair Café will be on hand to advise on how to fix all kinds of broken items and Radbourne Repairs will be able to mend bikes on the day.

There will be an arts and crafts area for families, live cooking demonstrations on how to use up leftovers and a storytelling area for young children.

Members of the social enterprise Low Carbon Hub will be on hand to answer all your questions on saving money on your energy bills this winter.

Online marketplace, ShopAppy, will also be present at the event to launch their platform for Didcot, as well as Abingdon, Botley, Faringdon, Henley, Wallingford, Wantage and Thame businesses, which allows people to shop local from the comfort of their own home.

Robin Bennett, South Oxfordshire District Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “This event is designed to highlight the brilliant green and sustainable approaches of local businesses in and around Didcot, while showing that the low-impact lifestyle of the future can also be enjoyable and rewarding. Thanks to Sustainable Didcot in particular for helping us to make this first Didcot Eco Fair happen, let’s hope it’s the first of many.”

Di Chesterman from Sustainable Didcot said: “Sustainable Didcot is delighted to be working in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council to bring an Eco Fair to Didcot. Finding new ways to negate the rising cost of living whilst also working to save the planet is our passion, and we’d love more people to join us by becoming members of Sustainable Didcot.”
