Ask For Angela

If someone is feeling uneasy or unsafe, they can get help by asking a member of staff for ‘Angela’.

Asking for ‘Angela’ is a national campaign used to help keep people safe while out at a bar, restaurant or venue.

For someone using the code word ‘Angela’ it means that staff will be able to help – they may be able to call a taxi, contact the person’s friends or family or ask the individual causing the distress to leave the venue.

How venues can get involved

We’re working with venues across the district to help prevent and reduce sexual violence and are always looking for more organisations to get involved.

If you are a venue and would like to know about how you can use the scheme or would like your premises highlighted on this webpage, please contact us by email: communitysafety@southandvale.gov.uk or call us on 01235 422590.

Once you’ve joined the scheme, you’ll be able to display an Ask for Angela poster in your toilets and train staff on how they can respond to ensure people remain safe in your venue.

“ASK FOR ANGELA” poster with a safety campaign message. It advises individuals who feel unsafe to discreetly ask for Angela to any staff member for assistance. The poster includes questions like “Do you feel like you are in an unsafe situation?” and “Are you getting unwanted attention or need some help?” It also features a QR code for more information and a logo for National Neighbourhood Watch with the tagline “Stronger Together.
