Major incident declared after water pipe burst near Oxford

Water supplies have been affected in South Oxfordshire and the Vale following a burst water pipe at Heyford Hill Roundabout on the Oxford Ring Road.

The A4142 Eastern Bypass eastbound is closed from Heyford Hill to Rose Hill and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible due to likely congestion. For the latest on the roads affected please follow @OxonTravel on Twitter.

Homes and businesses in OX1, OX2, OX3, OX4, OX9, OX14, OX33, OX44 and HP18 – including Abingdon and some surrounding towns and villages – have been affected with no water supply or low pressure and some schools have been forced to close.

Additionally, water supply that was previously available is likely to be interrupted from this morning (October 6), in particular around Long Crendon, Thame and the following postcodes OX9 (2), OX9 (3), HP17 (8), OX39 4NA.

For the latest on water stations for those affected and school closures head to Oxfordshire County Council’s website.

Thames Water are leading on repairing the issue but are warning disruption could last into Thursday (October 6). You can get updates on the Thames Water website

We’re encouraging residents in the areas affected to check-in on any vulnerable neighbours in case they need water collecting.
