Focusing on the future of Didcot and surrounding areas

Published 2 September 2026

Residents, community groups and local business leaders are invited to attend the autumn Didcot Garden Town Community Update Meeting later this month to find out more about the future plans for the town and surrounding areas.

All are welcome to the event on Wednesday 30 September from 5-7.30pm at Harwell Village Hall.

Attendees will be able to hear from representatives from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils about the latest projects from the Didcot Garden Town team including new wayfinding signs and plans for public art, the Broadway housing development project, heat recovery and heatwave resilience support with the Climate Team and updates on the districts’ leisure infrastructure projects.

As well as council staff there will be representatives from other organisations which support the work of the Didcot Garden Town programme including:

  • National Grid
  • Didcot Powerhouse

Cllr Anne-Marie Simpson, South Oxfordshire District Council Cabinet Member for Planning Policy (Including Garden Communities) said: “There’s so much exciting work being planned for Didcot and the surrounding villages as part of the Didcot Garden Town Programme and this is a great opportunity to find out all about what’s in the pipeline.

“From community artwork to new wayfinding signage, our Healthy Didcot project and more. This work isn’t about just one team, it’s about our partners and the whole community and we all need to work together to improve the facilities and focus on the future of the area.”

Cllr Helen Pighills, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Wellbeing at Vale of White Horse District Council said: “It was great to see so many people attend the last Community Update Meeting in March, and I would encourage anyone available to come to the event on the 30 September to find out about all the projects taking place now and those planned for the future. It’s rare you can get all these groups in one room at the same time so a brilliant opportunity to ask questions and let us know what you think too!”

Anyone interested in attending is asked to register their interest via the Didcot Garden Town latest news webpage.
