Creative fun for kids at Cornerstone Arts Centre’s Youth Activities Open Day

Published 17 May 2024

Cornerstone Arts Centre is offering a wide range of fun, low-cost taster activities for kids this July – including art classes, drama and street dance.

The Arts Centre, in Didcot, will open its doors to families on Saturday 6 July for a Youth Activities Open Day.

Children from ages 2 to 12 will be able to sample the range of classes available at Cornerstone, which is managed by South Oxfordshire District Council.

For the reduced price of £2 per session, children can enjoy tasters with Cornerstone’s experienced tutors, and help develop their creative confidence. What’s more, if people sign-up for the autumn season of classes the same day, they can unlock a 10 percent off discount.

For toddlers, Cornerstone will be running an Art Play class, that allows little ones to create and explore, as well as a Storytime session.

There will also be a range of taster sessions running for older children, including Cornerstone’s Youth Theatre group, Street Dance Class, and a Mess Makers art session. In Cornerstone’s gallery space, work from the previous cohort of Mess Makers will be displayed for free for visitors.

Towards the end of the day, there will be a Youth Classes Showcase, where children who have participated in the Arts Centre’s previous season of classes will demonstrate the skills they have learnt.

Cllr Georgina Heritage Cabinet Member for Communities at South Oxfordshire District Council said: “I’m excited that Cornerstone Arts Centre is offering the opportunity for young people to try out some of their fantastic classes. There are lots of different activities to get involved with, as well as the chance to see some of the brilliant work created by young people in Oxfordshire.”

The open day will run from 10am to 3pm. Specific timings and booking information can be found on Cornerstone’s website: cornerstone-arts.org. Booking open now!
