Your recycling and waste collections
We provide an award winning and hugely successful recycling and waste collection service for all residents in the district. Most of our residents have three or four bins. Here’s how it works.
Your bins are emptied on the same day every week. Click this link to find out what your regular collection day is. You need to put your bin out for collection before 7am on your collection day. It is okay to put your bin out the evening before.
We provide alternate weekly collections explained below, click here to find out which bin is due to be emptied this week.
Recycling – the green wheelie - This is collected fortnightly.
Food waste – the small green kerbside caddy - This is collected every week.
General waste – the grey wheelie - This is collected fortnightly, on alternate weeks to your recycling.
Garden waste – the brown wheelie - This is an optional service which you can subscribe to for a small fee. It is collected fortnightly in the same week as your recycling collection.
For more detail information about your collections, please visit our frequently asked questions section.
For most properties in the district bins will be collected from within the boundary of your property next to the kerbside and will be returned to that collection point.
You need to place your rubbish and recycling for collection before 7am. Your rubbish or recycling may be collected at different times during the day.
If you can't fit all of your recycling waste in your green bin, you can leave any extra recycling by the side of the bin. Please ensure it is left out in an open box or clear bin bag so that crews can see that it is recycling waste. Please do not use black bin bags for your recycling as these will be mistaken for rubbish. Please note that boxes left are at the residents own discretion and the council will not replace them if missing or damaged.
Do not leave extra bags of waste by the side of your grey bins as these will not be collected.
If your bin has gone missing and you need a replacement, please call 03000 610 610 (local call rate) or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that we are unable to replace the small kitchen caddy that accompanies your food waste bin. These are available to purchase from high street hardware stores.
We've had warnings of snow from the MET Office - if it's particularly bad it may not be safe for our waste lorries and crews to make their usual rounds.
If we don't manage to empty your bins, please leave them out for two days after your scheduled collection day and we'll do everything we can to come back and collect it.
If we don't get back to you, you'll be able to leave any extra rubbish you have beside your grey bin in a sack or open box on the next day it's due to be emptied, in the week beginning 23 January.
