Neighbourhood Action Groups

What are Neighbourhood Action Groups?

Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGS) are set up to deal with key community safety issues identified by the community. They are volunteer working groups made up of representatives from the community and local organisations, which problem solve on behalf of the community and ensure tasks are completed. They are also the “doers” – accountable locally for responding to problems that communities want to tackle.

What kind of people are on a NAG?

The membership of a typical NAG would include the police, the fire service, housing associations, representatives from district and parish councils, schools, youth and community groups such as neighbourhood watch or residents associations.

There are six NAGs in South Oxfordshire:

1. Wallingford (which comprises three neighbourhoods – Wallingford, Benson and Berinsfield and Cholsey and Moulsford).
2. Henley town
3. Thame (which comprises three neighbourhoods Thame, Chinnor and Watlington )
4. Wheatley (two neighbourhoods – Wheatley and Chalgrove)
5. Didcot (two neighbourhoods – Didcot North and South)
6. Henley Rural – (three neighbourhoods Nettlebed, Sonning Common, Goring and Woodcote)

What kind of issues are being dealt with?

The key issues that have arisen from the consultations include speeding, anti-social behaviour and vandalism.
