That, the provision of illumination to the projecting and fascia signs on this prominent building, detracts from the visual amenities of the area and fails to preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the Henley-on-Thames Conservation Area and the building. Furthermore the provision of applied lettering proud of the fascia, is an inappropriate form of advertising which is not considered to preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the Conservation Area. As such the proposal is contrary to the provisions of the Council's adopted South Oxfordshire Local Plan, particularly policies G13 and CON 12 and guidance contained in the Council's Traditional Shopfront Design Guide.
