Decision
Refusal of Planning Permission on 14th May 1996
Conditions / Refusal Reasons
That the development is contrary to policies of the Oxford Structure Plan, the adopted Central Oxfordshire Local Plan and the approved South Oxfordshire Local Plan. The purpose of the Oxford Belt is to protect the special character of Oxford and its landscape setting, check the growth of Oxford, prevent ribbon development and urban sprawl and to prevent the coalescence of settlements. (Structure Plan Policy EN5 and COLP Policy GB1, and SOLP Policy GB2). In addition, care will be taken to ensure that the visual amenity of the Green Belt is not injured (Structure Plan Policy EN5, COLP Policy GB2 and SOLP Policy GB3) and to protect the countryside for its own sake. (COLP and SOLP Policy C1). The extension of this garden area represents an incursion of domestic development into an important gap between the village of Sandford-on-Thames and the urban fringe of Oxford contrary to Green Belt policy.
