Decision
Refusal of Consent to Display an Advertisement on 23rd October 1996
Conditions / Refusal Reasons
That the proposed advertisement would be contrary to the provisions of the adopted Central Oxfordshire Local Plan and the approved South Oxfordshire Local Plan, which seek to protect and enhance the District's countryside and environment (Policies G1 COLP, SOLP). Policy G13 of the South Oxfordshire Local Plan states that advertisements which are not displayed on the premises, will only be approved where the premises are particularly remote and the appearance of the area not spoilt as a result. In rural areas, signs must be reasonably discreet and within the Green Belt any form of development should be designed and sited to minimise its impact on the open nature, rural character and visual amenity of the Green Belt (Policies GB2 COLP, GB3 SOLP). Having regard to its size and location, the proposed advertisement would adversely affect the rural character and appearance of this part of the Green Belt and would be detrimental to its visual amenity.
