The removal of the wall has harmed the historic and architectural significance of the former Free Church as a non-designated heritage asset, contrary to paragraph 135 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). In turn, this harms the contribution this building makes to the character and appearance of the Benson Conservation Area contrary to paragraph 134 of the NPPF, Policy CSEN3 of the South Oxfordshire Core Strategy and South Oxfordshire  Local Plan Policies CON6 and CON7.
