Decision
Refusal of Consent to Display an Advertisement on 19th April 2004
Conditions / Refusal Reasons
That having regard to the unacceptable modern style, inappropriate materials, and extent of illumination, the proposed advertisements would detract from the character and appearance of this grade II listed building, and would fail to preserve or enhance the character of the Thame Conservation Area. Therefore the development would be contrary to the provisions of the Council's adopted South Oxfordshire Local Plan, particularly policies CON8, CON10 and CON12 and to the provisions of the South Oxfordshire Local Plan 2011 Second Deposit Draft, particularly policies CON5, CON10 and CON13.

That, having regard to its prominent siting and inappropriate siting on the highway, the freestanding advertisement represents an intrusive feature which would detract from the character and appearance of the Conservation Area and be an obstruction to pedestrian users of the highway giving rise to the potential for accidents, contrary to Policies CON8 and G13 of the adopted South Oxfordshire Local Plan and to Policies CON10, CON13 and AD1 of the South Oxfordshire Local Plan 2011 Second Deposit Draft.
