Our services over Christmas and New Year

This year the council is closed from 5pm on Wednesday 23 December until 9am Monday 4 January.

There will be access to emergency support and services during that time.

Community Hub

The councils’ dedicated service for people who need urgent help, and have no other support because of Covid-19 will be available on an emergency basis on:

  • 24 December from 9am-5pm – please call 07919 381 605
  • 29–31 December from 9am-5pm – please call 01235 422600

The Community Hub will reopen at 9am on Monday 4 January.

If you need support, do not to wait until the last minute – call and ask for help now.

Waste collections

Our colleagues at Biffa are on hand between Christmas and New Year to answer your waste collection queries

  • 8.30am – 3pm 24 December
  • 8.30am – 5pm on 29 and 30 December
  • 8.30am – 3pm on 31 December

If bad weather means your bin is not emptied, please leave it out for up to three days and we will try and catch up with collections.


Any emergency homelessness calls out of hours are received by the council’s out of hours service: (24/7 when the offices are closed).
