A colourful celebration of Pride this June at Cornerstone Arts Centre

Celebrate Pride this June at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot with a range of events to embrace the LGBTQ+ community.

From 9 to 15 June there will be something for everyone to enjoy and embrace from drag cabaret to free family-friendly arts and yoga.

Theatre is at the heart of Cornerstone’s Pride celebrations starting with the return of The PHWOAR Next Door on Saturday 10 June. ‘PHWOAR’ features an exceptional lineup of Oxfordshire drag performers and burlesque artists in an explosion of laughter and glitter. This show was a resounding hit last year and the group promises to return to Didcot with a bang.

Anyone can pop in on Saturday 10 June from 11am to 3pm to add their voice to the centre’s communal artwork or to watch The Bull and The Moon, a fun, child friendly and magical outdoor dance theatre show about the importance of being oneself, family and inclusivity. Performances are in the courtyard at 11am, 1pm or 3pm

Throughout June there will be a range of Pride inspired workshops for adults available to book onto at Cornerstone:

  • on Friday 9 June adults can take part in an Introduction to Queerlesque (a form of burlesque), brought to you by the best-loved cabaret OxPHWOAR – this workshop is a fun way to boost self-confidence and let loose
  • take some time to reconnect with your body and mind in Queer Yoga on Saturday 10 June
  • make art, whether you’re experienced or just want to doodle, at Queer Life drawing Wednesday 14 June

The Pride celebrations started with theatre, and they come to a close on Thursday 15 June with The Chosen Haram. This show is an uplifting and emotionally candid circus duet performed on two Chinese poles. A powerful and moving performance that will leave audiences with a deeper understanding of the complexities of identity regardless of how they may identify.

Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing from South Oxfordshire District Council said: “All of us at the Council and Cornerstone Arts Centre welcome everyone to join in with our Pride celebrations. These events are inclusive events where everyone can have fun.”

You can find out more about the shows and workshops taking place on the Cornerstone website.
