The green wheelie bin

Recycle bin Recycling is good.  It’s cheaper, more energy efficient and better for the environment than making things from scratch.

We’re trying to make it as easy as possible for you to recycle as much as you can.  There’s loads of information in these pages to help you do just that.

Most of your waste can be put in your green wheelie bin for recycling.  You can find out what goes in your green bin on this page.

Put your recycling into your green wheelie bin loose - if you give it a quick rinse out, it'll keep your bin fresh and prevent other recycling from getting contaminated. If you want to put it into the bin in a sack, use clear sacks. We won't empty your green wheelie bin if the recycling is in a black or coloured sack.

What happens to my recycling?

Our leaflet which you can get hold of from the downloads section of this page, contains lots of information about what happens to your recycling after we pick it up and other useful information. This leaflet is due to be updated and for up to date information of where our recycling goes please visit This link will take you to an external website...   Smaller extracts from the leaflet can be downloaded here (586.0 KB) PDF .  You can also take a look at our diagram here that explains where things go (422.3 KB) PNG image .

Other ways to recycle
