Science Vale

What is Science Vale

Science Vale is an area in Southern Oxfordshire, crossing the border of the Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire.  It is one of the most successful science clusters in the UK.  This activity is concentrated around the three centres for science at Harwell Campus, Culham Science Centre, and Milton Park, but is supported by a number of important settlements including Didcot, Wantage and Grove.

The Area Action Plan

In order to fulfil the potential of Science Vale it is crucial that the planning system positively guides and influences development. The South Oxfordshire Core Strategy and Draft Vale of White Horse Local Plan 2031 have proposed development sites for over 20,000 new homes to support over 20,000 new jobs close to the three centres for science, and the main settlements of Didcot, Wantage and Grove within Science Vale.

Given the significant amount of change taking place in Science Vale, we are producing a Science Vale Area Action Plan to support the implementation of a Science Vale Vision and delivery of the strategic sites in the local plans.  This will be a positive planning tool that will help shape, coordinate and deliver sustainable growth across the area.
