New guidelines on community hydro schemes

A growing number of communities in South Oxfordshire are interested in developing their own community hydroelectricity schemes. We've prepared some guidelines and a project plan to help you through the process. The guidelines are available to download here.

Demonstration projects

We installed solar photovoltaic panels to provide electricity for our public conveniences at Goring and Henley on Thames.

We worked with Oxfordshire County Council to fund a 15 metre high wind turbine at Berinsfield Primary School. This wind turbine supplies the school with electricity and helps to offset the emissions from additional street and path lighting we have provided in the village.

We have funded feasibility studies and environmental surveys for a proposed hydroelectricity scheme on the Thames at Goring and Streatley. When in place this project is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the average daily consumption of 250 homes. It is envisaged that the hydro scheme will be set up as not for profit community owned entity funded by a local share issue.
