Didcot swimming pool set for temporary closure but all other Wave facilities to remain open as normal

Released on November 13, 2017

The swimming pool at Didcot Wave will be closed from 11 to 26 December (inclusive) for essential maintenance, however all other facilities at the centre, including the gym, will remain open as normal.  The pool will reopen to the public on Wednesday 27 December.

South Oxfordshire District Council is investing more than £100,000 into Didcot Wave to carry out essential maintenance and improvement works, including refurbishing the poolside shower area and improving the changing and locker area in the pool hall.

Essential work will be carried out to improve the flow of rain water from the roof of the building with repairs to the gym roof gullies and guttering around the building, while the swimming pool air handling unit will also be refurbished.

Cllr Lynn Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Leisure at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “This essential work will provide swimmers at Didcot Wave with improved changing and shower facilities, while also ensuring that the building is better protected from bad weather.

“We’ve planned for this work to take place when fewer swimming lessons are scheduled close to the Christmas period so it limits any disruption and the gym will be open as normal throughout the work - so please continue to come along and make the most of the facilities.”

Anyone wishing to swim during the pool closure can use the swimming pools at other Better Leisure Centres including Abbey Sports Centre in Berinsfield and White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon.
