Council fast-tracks new road crossing for Berinsfield residents

Released on October 16, 2016

South Oxfordshire District Council has listened to local residents' safety fears about the A4074 and is fast-tracking a new traffic light controlled crossing.

The new crossing, which will be located close to the A4074 bus stop lay-bys, will help residents get safely to the X39/40 Oxford to Reading buses. It will also help Burcot residents to reach the shops, leisure and other facilities in Berinsfield.

Councillor John Cotton, leader of South Oxfordshire District Council said:

“Residents have told us about their safety concerns when crossing this busy road to catch the bus to get to work or college or to go shopping. We have listened to their concerns and have agreed to fund the project and fast-track its delivery, so that it can be in place by early 2017.”

The district council’s consultants, AMEC Foster Wheeler, have already begun work on designs for the crossing. And our next step will be to engage the county council to carry out a statutory consultation with organisations like Thames Valley Police.
