Official opening for Great Western Park Community Centre

Released on September 15, 2015

A new community centre in Great Western Park has its official opening this weekend on Saturday 19 September.

Councillor Margaret Turner, Chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council, will be present to start the ceremony at 1.30pm.

There’ll then be an afternoon of activities for all the family including a bouncy castle, drumming workshops, a Women’s Institute Stall, bunting making, and much more.

The community centre is provided in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council and the developers of Great Western Park Taylor Wimpey.

The community centre has room for 60 people, with eight parking spaces and two extra reserved for disabled visitors.  It has a kitchen with a fridge, oven, microwave, and basic crockery, as well as an enclosed garden.  It’s available from 9am until 9pm, and suitable for all kinds of activities including children’s parties, exercise classes, social clubs and meetings.

Councillor John Cotton, Leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “It’s really important that we build the houses South Oxfordshire needs, but it’s no use if we don’t help the new developments become communities that people want to live in.  We’ve stepped in at Great Western Park to make sure it gets a helping hand to become a proper neighbourhood – the new community centre is one step towards that.  We’re absolutely committed to making sure all new developments across South Oxfordshire are supported by the right community facilities and infrastructure.”
