Every Saturday a summer holiday with free afternoon parking in South Oxfordshire

Released on July 18, 2012

Free Saturday afternoon parking will continue to entice visitors to South Oxfordshire over summer, boosting high-street trade in the process.

The scheme, operated across all South Oxfordshire District Council off-street car parks, allows visitors to park for free in council off-street car parks on Saturday afternoons from either 2pm or 3pm, depending on the location.

In place since April, free Saturday afternoon parking has already proved very popular and has been welcomed both by traders and by visitors to South Oxfordshire’s towns.

Visitors can use their free time on a Saturday to spend the afternoon shopping at Didcot’s Orchard Centre or to wander round Thame and Wallingford, where episodes of Midsomer Murders are filmed and many intriguing independent shops are found.

For a spot of leisure why not visit Henley’s world renowned rowing sites, or Wallingford’s Riverside Park with its new interactive water feature.

Over the summer the free parking on Saturday afternoons will continue to provide a boost to the towns’ commercial and tourist economies, further helping them to buck the national trend of high streets in decline during the current economic situation.

Cllr Judith Nimmo-Smith, cabinet member for economy and leisure, said “Free parking on a Saturday afternoon allows both locals and tourists to take advantage of our vibrant and historic towns, to enjoy time out without worrying about paying to park.”

The Saturday free parking operates in the following car parks, at the listed times:
