Councillors to debate allowances
MEMBERS of South Oxfordshire District Council will debate and set their allowances at a meeting on 15 December.
Councillors do not get paid a wage for the time that they devote to the council and the community, but are entitled to an allowance in recognition of the impact that the position has on their lives. They are also reimbursed for the costs of things such as travel.
An independent panel of four members of the public has met and made recommendations for councillors to consider. The report and its recommendations will be put to the council and debated at its meeting on December 15. The council is able to accept or reject the recommendations of the panel.
You can inspect a copy of the report of the independent panel at the council offices, Benson Lane, Crowmarsh Gifford, Wallingford, Oxon OX10 8ED, between 9.00am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. A copy of the document will be provided free of charge, upon request to Legal and Democratic Services (telephone 01491 823619) and is available as part of the council meeting papers on the council’s web site.
