Your chance to be part of history - the Olympic Torch Relay in South Oxfordshire

On Tuesday 10 July people in South Oxfordshire will be able to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay to the district, and celebrate the achievements of the inspirational Torchbearers, when it travels through Wallingford, Crowmarsh, Nettlebed and Henley.

The Flame will begin its journey through the district just after 8.20am at Castle Street in Wallingford.  It will then travel on to St Martin’s Street and High Street, before moving down The Street into Crowmarsh Gifford.  The Torch will leave Crowmarsh just before 8.50am when it will be transported along the A4130 by bus to Nettlebed where it will be carried through the village by Torchbearer.

The Torch will then travel by bus on to Henley on Thames, where it will begin its journey through the town from Northfield End just after 9am.  It will then be carried by Torchbearer down to The River and Rowing Museum, on Mill Meadows, from where it will be transported by rowing boat along the Thames to Wargrave Lane.  At Wargrave Lane the Torch will be transferred back onto the bus and is scheduled to leave the district just before 10am.

Residents will be invited to line the streets of Wallingford, Crowmarsh, Nettlebed and Henley to mark this historic occasion and cheer the Flame on its way.

There will be temporary road closures in place along the route for up to an hour before the convoy begins its journey through each location.  Residents and businesses are therefore asked to plan in advance if they intend to make a journey around that time.
