Property Numbering

Name your house

Even if your house has a street number, you can still give your property a name.  The name will not form part of the official postal address, but will be recorded by the council onto a national database that is used by other authorities, the emergency services, and utility companies.  Please note you cannot remove a street number from an official address.

To add a house name to your existing address, please email bissnn@southoxon.gov.uk

Change your house name

If your house only has a house name and does not have a street number, you can rename your house with any name you choose as long as there is no other property in the postcode area with a similar name.  To find out if there are any existing similar names within the same postcode area, please contact IT.  This is important for mail delivery and for the emergency services and we will advise the Royal Mail, Ordnance Survey, council tax and emergency services when the name change is official.
