Key workers
A new Government scheme has been introduced to provide assistance to key workers to gain access to housing.
The Council considers a keyworker to be any individual who contributes to the economic and/or social well-being of a community through their work or any individual who needs to live close to the community because of the nature of their work.
Eligible key workers in Oxfordshire are:
- School teachers
- National Health Service Workers
- Police Officers
- Probation Service Officers
- Prison Service Officers
- Social Workers (Adult/Child areas)
- Local Authority Planners
- Occupational Therapists
- Educational Psychologists
The Key workers scheme is administered by Catalyst Housing Group on behalf of the Council. They offer three products:
Key Worker Homebuy
Offers equity loans to help key workers buy a home on the open market.
Key Worker Shared Ownership
Available on new homes built by housing associations as and when they become available. These properties will be on the property search page on the HomeBuy website when they are available. You buy at least 25% of the home and pay a reduced rent on the remaining share.
Key Worker Intermediate Renting
Available through housing associations. Intermediate renting is where the rent is set at a level between that charged by social and private landlords.
Key workers in public or other services may be allowed to join the Housing Register to apply for rented, intermediate rented and shared ownership housing schemes.
To find out if you are eligible and to apply directly, please visit the HomeBuy website.
