Housing repairs and adaptations

If you are on a low income and your property is in serious disrepair, the Council may be able to help you in the following ways:

Home Repair Assistance

For small repairs of up to £4000, the Council may be able to award a grant. Any grant in excess of £500 is repayable on the eventual sale of the property. The facility to make the grant payment by BACS is available. (BACS stands for Bankers’ Automated Clearing Service - a system for making automatic payments into someone’s bank account instead of sending a cheque).

Other sources of assistance

For larger repairs or adaptation works, the Council can help you get a loan secured on your property. This loan need not require any payments until the property is sold.  This scheme is operated in partnership with the Home Improvement Trust.

For more information, please contact Private Sector Housing.

Help to stay in your own home

Anchor Staying Put is a service, partly funded by the Council, to provide free and confidential help and advice to older and disabled home owners to carry out repairs, improvements or adaptations to their homes so that they can "stay put" in comfort and safety.  Anchor Staying Put can also give advice about claiming Income Support and other benefits.

Please visit the Staying Put website for more information on this service.

If you think that you might benefit from this service, please contact Anchor on tel 01491 823888 or email stayingput.southoxfordshire@anchor.org.uk.

Disabled facilities grants

If you, or a member of your family, are experiencing difficulty in managing at home because of a disability, you may qualify for a disabled facilities grant to help adapt your home, for example, stair lifts, showers and ramping.  Go to our Disabled facilities grants page for more information.
