Housing associations

The Council can nominate people for most (but not all) housing association  rented and shared ownership homes.

What are housing associations?

Housing associations are non-profit making organisations that build and manage homes for rent and for sale. The homes are for people in housing need who cannot afford to rent privately or buy their own home.

Where can I get a list of housing associations?

Follow the link to the Housing Corporation website, which will give you details of housing associations with stock in South Oxfordshire.

Who controls housing associations?

Most housing associations receive government funding and are registered with a government body called the Housing Corporation. The Housing Corporation makes sure the housing associations manage their properties and finances well.

Getting a housing association place

Most housing associations work closely with the Council and many of their homes are given to people put forward by the Council from their housing register.

Joining the Council’s Housing Register

If you are looking for affordable housing in South Oxfordshire, it is important you apply to the Council to join the Housing Register. You can download an application form from the allocations page, or contact Housing and we can send you a form.

The majority of housing associations also operate their own waiting lists, although arrangements for dealing with applications will vary. You should contact the housing association directly if you are interested in joining their waiting list.
