Affordable Housing
We regularly commission an independent assessment of housing need in the district to determine what we should be building. Our most recent Housing Needs Survey can be downloaded from this page.
We work closely with Registered Social Landlords to identify development sites and obtain funding to build new homes for local people. People on our housing register will then be offered the new homes.
For information on where new affordable housing is being built, contact Housing.
To apply to buy or rent new affordable housing, join the council’s housing register.

Planning
The Housing Needs Assessment informs our Local Plan which determines the number, type and location of houses to be built in the district. The Supplementary Guidance for Affordable Housing specifies that 40% of houses built on qualifying sites should be affordable. This document can be downloaded from the menu on the right.
Housing Partnerships
Housing partnerships work to create opportunities for new affordable housing to be built by identifying site for development, obtaining funding and working with developers.
