Recyling and waste FAQ's
Recycling Service
- Do I have to pay for a recycling box?
No. You can order recycling boxes free from the Council
- Can I have more than one recycling box?
Yes. You can order more than one recycling box to meet your recycling needs
- What time should I put my recycling
and waste out for collection?
You need to put your recycling and waste out before 7am but not before 6pm the day before collection
- Is my recycling
and waste collected on the same day?
Recycling and waste is collected on the same day but at different times. Please make sure recycling and waste is out by 7am
- What
happens to my recycling?
It is taken to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where items are separated, compacted into bales and then sent to be recycled. For example plastics are recycled to make items such as utility piping
- Can glass bottles go in my recycling box?
No. There are glass recycling banks situated at some supermarkets and other locations throughout the District where you can recycle glass bottles
- Can I put plastic shopping bags in my recycling box?
Yes plastic bags can be put in your recycling box
- Where is my nearest
waste recycling centre?
Oakley Wood, near Wallingford
Garden Waste Service
- What
happens to my collected garden waste?
Garden waste is composted locally in Preston Crowmarsh and used to improve local farmland
- Can I put vegetable/fruit
peelings into my garden waste wheeled bin?
No. The service is only for waste created from your garden. This is to prevent possible contact with animal products that might spread disease such as Foot and Mouth disease

happens to waste that cannot be recycled?
It goes into landfill
- Can the Council take away my
old fridge?
Yes. The Council has a bulky waste service that can take large items at a cost of £7.75 per item
