The Structure Plan and the South East Plan
Oxfordshire Structure Plan
We are now in a transitional period before the new plan- making arrangements take full effect. At present the Government’s Regional Planning Guidance for the South East (RPG9), together with the Oxfordshire Structure Plan set the strategic planning framework for the district.
The Oxfordshire Structure Plan 2016 was adopted by the County Council on the 21st October 2005. This followed an Examination in Public into the draft proposals in October 2004, and the publication of the Panel's Report in December 2004. You can view the Oxfordshire Structure Plan 2016 and contact the Structure Plan team via the Oxfordshire County Council Structure Plan webpage.
The South East Plan
Under the new planning system, the South East Plan will replace Regional Planning Guidance for the South East and the Oxfordshire Structure Plan, to form part of the development plan. It will provide a vision for the region up to the year 2026, and is likely to be approved by the Government in 2008.
You can view the latest on the South East Plan via the South East Plan website.
The South East Plan contains nine sub-regional strategy areas, one of which contains land within South Oxfordshire. The Central Oxfordshire region covers a large part of the district, encompassing much of the Oxford Green Belt and land south to Didcot and beyond.
The Plan proposes that 7500 new dwellings be built in the Central Oxfordshire part of the district to 2026. This includes 6050 dwellings proposed at Didcot. A further 2250 dwellings are proposed at the Didcot in the Vale of the White Horse District Council, giving at total of 8800 dwellings in Didcot. 1500 of these dwellings proposed at Didcot are through the growth points initative. The Plan also makes provision for 2700 new houses in the district outside Central Oxfordshire from 2006 to 2026..
